The Sons of the Forest Postponed to October

The forest excited survival horror fans when the trailers came out several years ago, as they showed realistic building options and lush woods that housed creepy cannibals at dusk. You played Eric LeBlanc, a father searching for his lost son after a plane crash, surviving on a wooded peninsula. It was a solid entry into the genre, with enjoyable amounts of scary and survival options, though the story veered off into some wildly unpredictable places as you explored. But it turned out to be a commercial success for its developer, selling several million copies. This success spawned a sequel, Sons of the Forest, which was unfortunately delayed.

Developer Endnight Games has confirmed that the launch date for Sons of the Forest has been pushed back. The sequel was slated for a May 20 release, but that has now been moved. “Over the past few weeks, we have realized that our May 2022 release date for Sons of the Forest was too ambitious,” the Vancouver-based indie developer wrote on Twitter.

“To be able to deliver our vision for the next stage of survival games, we have decided to move our release date to October 2022.”

This isn’t the first time Endnight Games has pushed back the release date for Sons of the Forest as originally planned for 2021, but it’s not uncommon for games to slip their schedules, especially if a team relatively small is working on something ambitious, and quality standards need to be maintained. The sequel was announced in 2019, a year after the original game launched. A trailer showed improved visuals and improved performance in November, which announced the May 2022 release date, which has now been updated to October.

For those looking to try out the original game, TheGamer has several guides (here and here) to The Forest that should help them survive and hopefully thrive in the wild and escape those pesky cannibals. A word of advice: be sure to loot the plane! The Forest is available on PC and PS4.
