A serial killer torturing his victims with traps and elaborate devices? It looks a lot like Saw.
It’s the launch day of House of Ashes, the latest in Supermassive Games’ growing catalog. Like Dark Pictures, a teaser was unveiled at the same time as the launch of the last title. The next chapter – The Devil in Me – will introduce a ruthless serial killer who tortures his victims with all kinds of devices. Does ringing a bell? It looks a lot like the Saw movies.
We learned that the next episode of The Dark Pictures Anthology will be called The Devil in Me in July when the brand and official logo surfaced. At the time, it was assumed that the upcoming entry would focus on some sort of demonic possession, but that doesn’t appear to be the case here.
As seen in the first teaser, you’ll face a fictional serial killer bent on pain, torture, and death – it’s a horrific triumph of abuse. Still, it’s pretty common when it comes to horror villains – it’s a key mainstay that’s prevalent in movies, TV shows, books, comics, and games. But it will be interesting to see how Supermassive tackles these themes for The Dark Pictures. It would be daring if you could play the villain in some episodes, after all.
It’s worth noting that these themes were briefly explored in Supermassive’s Until Dawn, the studio’s longest and most ambitious game to date, released in 2015 exclusively for PS4.
As of now, we don’t have an exact launch window for The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me. However, the post says this will be the Season 1 finale, so the game should also be available as a cross-gen title given that its predecessor was.
The Dark Pictures’ latest entry, House of Ashes, is available starting today on PlayStation, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. You can read more about the game in our full review here, where Eric Switzer called it âSpooky Tomb Raider,â adding that this time around, âit feels like The Dark Pictures bit exactly as much as they did. he can chew “.
