monrovia– The National Ports Authority (NPA) won the football category of the intra-government tournament after a 3-1 win against the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) at the training ground of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
The NPA went ahead midway through the first half before the LRA leveled the proceedings from the spot to end the first four.
But Bill Twehway’s boys came out of the interval stronger to regain the lead after a dominating frenzy that saw the tax collectors score an own goal.
The NPA continued to find holes in the LRA defence, creating a few chances before scoring to dash the eagerness of LRA Commissioner General Thomas Doe-Nah and the fans’ hopes of an equalizer for win the championship in a frantic way.
NPA also won the kickball category and their awards were well received at the presentation ceremony for this year’s edition of the tournament.
The event which is organized annually by the Ministry of Youth and Sports was colourful, with its partner, Liberia International Ship Corporate Registry (LISCR), showcasing the winners of each of the categories (football, kickball, volleyball and basketball -ball) with the respective trophies and individual awards.
Abraham Avi Zaidenberg, CEO of LISCR made the various trophies available through LISCR for the winners of each category.
Mr. Zaidenberg presented a bundle of trophies and medals worth US$6,000 to the host of the tournament in May this year.
