Microsoft reveals plans for Tokyo Game Show Online 2021

The 2021 Tokyo Game Show is coming in a few weeks, and Xbox has announced its intentions for the event. Fans can look forward to a webcast with information on upcoming Xbox games.

Tokyo Game Show Online 2021 attendees have started revealing their intentions for the conference in recent weeks. This year’s four-day event at Makuhari Messe in Japan will feature a hybrid lecture, featuring a mix of in-person and digital shapes.

Capcom, Square Enix, Konami, Ubisoft and many other game makers will join Xbox at the event. Xbox will participate in TGS Online for the second year in a row, after attending last year’s all-digital event.

Microsoft unveiled its intentions for the Tokyo Game Show Online 2021 this morning on Xbox Wire. They reveal that Xbox will be hosting a virtual webcast on TGS’s opening day, Thursday, September 30 at 6 p.m. JST, written by Jeremy Hinton, head of Xbox Asia.

This feed will be “tailored for players in Japan and Asia”, with localized game updates. Hinton points out that “no new global launches should be expected,” unlike Xbox’s appearance at Gamescom 2021, which included a slew of world premieres.

Xbox obviously targets its presentation to its Asian players, from advertising graphics to the purpose of its demonstration. There were few major upgrades during last year’s Xbox Tokyo Game Show, with the event focused on games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft, and Resident Evil Village.

Xbox demonstrated the game’s representation of Japan with realistic reconstructions of major Japanese cities and airports, using Microsoft Flight Simulator as an example. Fans who watch other parts of the world can expect ads that don’t always appeal to audiences in their region.

So which Xbox games can be updated during the conference? Pragmata, a new upcoming IP from Capcom that was noticeably absent from this year’s E3, was another of the main games unveiled at last year’s event.

Despite the fact that it was later confirmed that the game would arrive on PS5, it’s possible that Capcom waited until it showed it during TGS for it to really stand out. Without any official word on Capcom’s plans, it’s impossible to say which of its titles will be included in the Xbox storefront.
