The tournament’s No.1 seed (WTA rank 12) Belinda Bencic secured a pass to the round of 16, where she advanced to the quarter-finals but encountered a strong opposition.
The top half of the bracket has the best game on paper, two players ranked in the tournament’s top seven, Samsonova (No.7) and Ostapenko (No.3). It has been a roller coaster for Samsonova, although she hasn’t lost a set in her three matches. She is 6-0 in sets and 38-22 in games with two tie-breaks (14-8).
It was a battle and a journey for Ostapenko who won in straight sets, before a battle in straight sets and a well-deserved long straight-set victory in the quarter-finals. She is 6-1 in sets and 41-21 in sets with a tiebreaker (8-6).
These two should do the show.
At the bottom of the table, Vondrousova (n ° 5) faces Tauson (not classified). Vondrousova probably has the cleanest path and the path to the semi-finals, winning all three games in straight sets and going 37-18 in matches without any tiebreakers.
Her opponent, Tauson, won a marathon in the second round against the tournament’s fourth player and won in straight sets in her other two games. She went 6-1 in sets and 40-25 in walks with a walk in her tiebreaker (7-1).
