Developer Appirits a announcement they will end the service for Kemono Friends 3 for PS4.
The game will remain active on iOS, Android and PC as they have been released on these platforms since 2019 for mobile and 2020 for PC. This cancellation means the game will no longer be playable on PS5, as it was backwards compatible and not a native port.
Kemono Friends 3 has only been on PS4 since June 6 earlier this year. Now, not even 2 months after the initial launch, they are going to shut down the service for free titles.
The reason for the cancellation is due to ongoing technical issues that have plagued the game since launch. Since June 16, the game has been under constant maintenance due to connection issues. The game has essentially only been playable for 10 days out of the 2 months since launch.
“While we continued to address issues that arose on the operations side, we determined that resolving these issues would be extremely difficult and that there is no realistic way to resolve them, due to the situation, we have concluded that it will be difficult to continue providing the service for the PlayStation 4 version, and the service will cease for this platform”
Those who have made in-game purchases will be able to submit a form for a full refund.
There have been a number of other titles that have been shut down this year. Bandai Namco has terminated the online service of jump strength in February, which also caused them to remove the game from the list.
Ubisoft got into hot water as they shut down the online services of dozens of their games, which people believed would require the ability to play Assassin’s Creed: Liberation away from the owners. Although the DLC people had purchased will no longer be rateable.
Kemono Friends 3 will still be available for iOS, Android and PC (via DMM games).
