ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Georgia — South Carolina’s No. 22 finished 11and in the 2022 SEC Championship, missing the eight-team boundary line for the quarterfinals of match play on Saturday. The Gamecocks posted a final round 287 (+7) on another windy day at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.

“A frustrating week overall and it’s definitely not our best effort,” the head coach said. bill mcdonald. “We had four guys in the roster who had never seen Sea Island under SEC Championship Tournament conditions. I liked what I saw from our freshmen. Nathan (Franks) had a solid tournament Gene (Zeigler) had a great final round and Ryan (Hall) obviously played well again We weren’t at our best and certainly haven’t been at our best this week I’m worried for Jack (Wall) and his wrist but hopefully all is well and he can come back for the rest of the season We’ve had some adversity this week and at this level it’s hard to compete with such a good group and not your whole team. We’re going to refine some things and be ready to go to NCAA Regionals.

Senior All American Ryan Room shot 71 (+1) and finished T-5and at 3 cents for the tournament. He missed a few birdie opportunities down the stretch. Hall had to birdie his last hole on the par-4 ninth. He was aggressive and attacked the pin but caught a flyer off the rough and overshot the green, leading to his only bogey on the back nine.

senior red shirt Evans Lewis set the pace for the team today with an even par of 70, bouncing back from two tough rounds to start the tournament. He was bogey-free on his front nine today with a birdie at the difficult par-4 14and hole. Lewis had two tough bogeys on holes six and seven, but responded well with a birdie at the par-4 eighth to put it back level.

First-year student Gene Zeiglerwho was inserted into the lineup just before the start of the second round on Thursday for the injured Jack Wall, move 72 (+2). He fought to make a pair of birdies.

Second year Rafe Reynolds was the final score today with a 74 (+4). He birdied three but was hurt by a pair of double bogeys on his scorecard on the back nine where the team started for the second straight day on hole 10.

First-year student Nathan Frankswho shot a free bogey 67 (-3) yesterday, had a tough final round with a 75 (+5) and no birdies on his scorecard.

No. 3 Vanderbilt secured the top seed in match play with an impressive 824 under-16. Florida’s John Dubois took medalist honors with a final 54-hole total of 204 (-6). He shot 64 (-6) in the second round and 68 (-2) today to win by one shot.

The Gamecocks will now await their playoff destination for NCAA Regionals. The men’s side selection show airs at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, May 4, live on the Golf Channel.
