Former Norwin Shasko Bonnett wins half-time kicking contest at Steelers game

The second kicker in a three-way contest at Heinz Field on Saturday night – with over 40,000 spectators – Ariel Shasko Bonnett fielded his try from the 5-yard line.

A chip? Not for someone who had only started kicking a week ago.

She’s much more of a rookie than tight end Pat Freiermuth, but has received similar applause for her efforts.

Bonnett, a Norwin graduate who mastered high school soccer and Washington & Jefferson, shared the proceeds with her first attempt to win a halftime contest and the $ 10,000 prize that will go to the United Way.

The other two contestants, both male, missed their kicks and felt more like the Detroit Lions when they left the field.

“I was the second kicker so there was one more after me,” said Bonnett, 29. I was just anticipating the outcome. I tried to soak up the experience and the moment. It was truly unforgettable. ”

Bonnett, a smart factory deployment manager for Kennametal, won a competition at work to kick off the Steelers’ third preseason game.

She had trained at Norwin Knights Stadium and on a grass field at her alma mater.

Bonnett was an assistant staff coach at Saint Vincent with her sister Ashley for two years.
