Despite the booming release of next-gen consoles last year, it’s clear that the gaming landscape is still in transition between generations of consoles. Just look at blockbusters like Far cry 6, Rainbow Six Extraction, Battlefield 2042, and Tales of the Ascension, slated for release on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X / S. All in, true new generation exclusives, such as Return or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, remain rare.

Still, we’re quickly approaching the point where PS4 and Xbox One gamers are being left behind, with more than a dozen major games on the horizon slated as next-gen releases only.

Granted, most of them are releasing on PC as well, as the technical ability to run cutting edge games is and always will be on this ever-evolving platform. And while this list is based on information currently available, platforms aren’t always set in stone. To witness it: the fall of god, originally released on PC and PS5, will be released on PS4 next month. So yes, anything can happen. Still, if you’re a console gamer – one who, like millions, struggled to get your hands on a next-gen machine – don’t expect subsequent games.

But, talk to Kotaku, Xbox boss Phil Spencer explained this a bit, saying, “I think we’re going to take it on a case-by-case basis… gen.
