Despite the booming release of next-gen consoles last year, it’s clear that the gaming landscape is still in transition between generations of consoles. Just look at blockbusters like Far cry 6, Rainbow Six Extraction, Battlefield 2042, and Tales of the Ascension, slated for release on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X / S. All in, true new generation exclusives, such as Return or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, remain rare.
Still, we’re quickly approaching the point where PS4 and Xbox One gamers are being left behind, with more than a dozen major games on the horizon slated as next-gen releases only.
Granted, most of them are releasing on PC as well, as the technical ability to run cutting edge games is and always will be on this ever-evolving platform. And while this list is based on information currently available, platforms aren’t always set in stone. To witness it: the fall of god, originally released on PC and PS5, will be released on PS4 next month. So yes, anything can happen. Still, if you’re a console gamer – one who, like millions, struggled to get your hands on a next-gen machine – don’t expect subsequent games.
Always wild (Xbox Series X / S)
Little is known about Always wild, the next adventure game from Rare, apart from being very, very pretty and currently plagued by development issues (which now suggests it might not be released until 2024). When it comes to consoles, this will only do so on Xbox Series X and S.
STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl (Xbox Series X / S)
Harasserthe beginnings of the console, released on April 28, 2022, will not happen on older consoles. Returning irradiated Chernobyl waste seems like too much of a burden on the poor Xbox One. Last fall, based on remarks made by Xbox’s Matt Booty, it looked like Xbox games would release generation after generation for a year or two after the X and S series were released. Starfield (Xbox Series X / S)
Skyrim in space is not ready on Xbox One. It also won’t be coming to PS4 or PS5, for that matter. Pete Hines is so sorry about that.
Death loop (PS5)
Despite an allocation of $ 7.5 billion from Microsoft, Bethesda will still release games exclusive to PlayStation. The chief among these is Death loop, Arkane’s ultra-stylish time-looping shooter about eating the rich. It is currently scheduled for release on PS5.
Ghostwire: Tokyo (PS5)
Bethesda will also release Ghostwire: Tokyo, the supernatural horror adventure from Tango Gameworks, for PS5. Bethesda has yet to confirm an Xbox Series X / S release.
Red drop (Xbox Series X / S)
But Microsoft isn’t letting PlayStation catch all of the exclusives released by Bethesda. from Arkane Red drop– a vampire game that caused everyone to lose their marbles after it was revealed at Microsoft’s E3 2021 event – will only be released on Xbox Series X / S.
Crushers (Xbox Series X / S)
the Ampé snowboard game series is long gone, but its spiritual successor, the Crushers, is one of the craziest snowboard simulations of all time. This is planned for the Xbox Series X / S.
The Outer Worlds 2 (Xbox Series X / S)
The original Outer worlds was released in 2019 on PS4 and Xbox One. Obsidian, now under the umbrella of Xbox, will not release the sequel on PlayStation. It is currently planned exclusive to next-gen Xbox.
Declared (Xbox Series X / S)
Declared, Obsidian’s other great RPG in the works, is also scheduled as an Xbox Series X / S exclusive. It’s fantasy-themed, set in a fictional world called Eora, but details are otherwise scarce.
Fable (Xbox Series X / S)
Good news: Fablecome back! Bad news: when fantasy-RPG returns, it won’t come Xbox One. And it might take a while for that to happen, as the developer, Playground Games, currently has. Forza Horizon 5 in the pipeline, slated for release on November 9.
Square Enix sorry, born Athia Project, should be released next year on PS5. Last year, Sony mentionned it will be a PS5 exclusive console for “at least 24 months”.
Gran Turismo 7 (PS5)
At present, Gran Turismo 7 is listed as a PS5 game only. But comments made last month by Hermen Hulst, the boss of PlayStation Studios, raised uncertainty about a possible cross-gen release. “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5, for Horizon forbidden to the west, the following God of the war, GT7– we will continue to watch this ”, he mentionned in a PR-approved PlayStation Blog Q&A.
A Plague Tale: Requiem (Xbox Series X / S, PS5)
A Plague Tale: Requiem, the breathtaking follow-up from Asobo Studios A story of plague: innocence, is intended for next-generation consoles — and, by publisher Focus Home Interactive, the switch. The latter is curious. Rumors have been circulating for a long time about a Switch model with 4K capabilities, to the point that the thing is almost confirmed, although Nintendo has not officially revealed it. Requiem comes out next year.
Avatar: Pandora’s Borders (Xbox Series X / S, PS5)
Most Ubisoft games are released on as many platforms as possible. (Benefits!) This is not the case with Avatar: Pandora’s Borders. The first-person action game set in the reductive yet beautiful world of James Cameron is planned for new generation consoles.

Pragmata (Xbox Series X / S, PS5)
Capcom Pragmata-a game, based on his spinning head trailer, about Times Square hate so much that you go to the moon – comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X / S in 2022. It features a cat.
