Diablo Immortal Fan Turns 600 Million WoW Gold Into Microtransactions

Maxing out your character in Diablo Immortal can be very expensive – as one player found after spending over $15,000 to get a max rank legendary gem – but one crafty fan found a rather unique approach, converting over 600 millions of WoW Gold in Blizzard Credit to spend on microtransactions in the RPG game. Reddit user Daymeeuhn posted about their efforts, explaining how they sold off a slew of old BlizzCon mounts to fund their quest for gems.

“I had a bunch of leftover loot cards from years ago when Blizzard gave them out at BlizzCon events,” explains daymeeuhn. “Trying to sell them was next to impossible because you get ripped off so often on digital sales. They just sat in a drawer gathering dust for ages. With Diablo Immortal coming to PC, they realized that if they turned them into in-game gold, they could purchase WoW tokens from the MMORPG’s auction house, which can then be converted into $15 Blizzard store credit per token.

“I spent the month of May returning some old code for Spectral Tigers and what do you have in the game for gold,” Daymeeuhn continues, making it clear that this process is fair game under the TOS. of World of Warcraft and never involved real money transactions. . “I had no interest in trying to sell gold for dollars because it’s very hard to do and quite easy to get banned.”

At the end of the experiment, they ended up with a total of 6,497 runes collected from a total of 2,165 Elder Rifts, which amounts to a total of around $48,648 spent, or 3,243 WoW tokens. Daymeeuhn notes that there is a daily limitation on token redemption, meaning the process took a total of three weeks – they even managed to clear the auction house’s entire stock of tokens at one point. .

So what does 600 million WoW gold get you in Diablo Immortal? By the end of the project, daymeeuhn had reached 7,000 resonances – increasing his base gear attributes by 350% – and unlocked four of the five resonance bonuses. The fifth bonus, Daymeeuhn says, is “so ridiculous and overpriced” to unlock that they were more than happy to stop at this point and call it a day. That said, their power level was still enough to “dunk on cash streamers like jtisallbusiness”, a Twitch streamer who claims to have spent $100,000 on the game.

What inspired Daymeeuhn to undertake this project? “I thought it would be really funny,” they say, “There’s a sense of hilarity to me diving on a silver whale as a gold whale,” referring to terminology often used for big guys. spendthrifts who invest heavily in a game’s microtransactions. Their character is Naecabon, on the Prime Evils server, if you want to research them for yourself.

This isn’t the first time daymeeuhn has made the news either – those of you with a living memory might remember them as the person who spent $1300 on an early copy of No Man’s Sky then briefly talked about it before deciding that they didn’t. I don’t want to divulge too many details about the space game in advance.
