2022 World Cup Guide

The World Cup is undoubtedly the most anticipated sporting tournament in the world. In 2018, a total of 3.5 billion people watched this competition when it was held in Russia. Now, the 2022 edition is set to break all known records, as research shows there could be up to 5 billion people turning their attention to it.

Considering the fact that the 2022 World Cup is just around the corner, we decided to join the bandwagon and share a complete guide to the tournament and list down all the things you need to know. We’re going to get down to business.

bet on the world cup

A side activity that sports fans like to do during the World Cup is betting on matches. Sportsbooks, especially online bookmakers, are reporting massive increases in betting activity over this period. This is the reason why they offer exclusive bonuses and promotions which can be used to increase potential rewards.

Germany is a particularly active country when it comes to World Cup betting. In 2021, the estimated revenue of the online gambling industry (including online betting) was over $6.5 billion. Since online betting is legal, fans are more than happy to bet on the games.

Of course, when bettors look to register and bet online, they will be looking for a bookmaker that has the best odds for the 2022 World Cup in Germany. The better the odds, the higher the potential rewards can be.

So if you’re looking to bet on the World Cup, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll have plenty of options – land-based and online sports betting will all be at your disposal.

Dates, venue and teams

As mentioned at the beginning, the 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar. The opening match will take place on November 21 and the tournament will last until December 18. Now you might be wondering what does this have to do with a winter edition of the World Cup? The answer is very simple: Qatar faces extremely high temperatures during the summer and it was then impossible for the Cup to take place.

There will be a total of 32 teams competing in 8 groups. Senegal will play against the Netherlands at the Al Thumama stadium; this will be the first match of the tournament and it will be followed by the hosts playing against Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium.

Many consider this to be the most competitive tournament and it’s hard to say if any team can go undefeated.

As for the groups themselves, they are as follows:

  • group A: Netherlands, Senegal, Qatar, Ecuador

  • Group B: USA, England, Iran, Euro Play-Off Team

  • Group C: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Poland, Mexico

  • Group D: Tunisia, Denmark, France IC Play-Off Team

  • Group E: Spain, Japan, Germany, IC Play-Off Team

  • Group F: Croatia, Morocco, Belgium, Canada

  • Group G: Serbia, Cameroon, Brazil, Switzerland

  • Group H: South Korea, Ghana, Portugal, Uruguay

The knockout phase is scheduled to start on December 3 and end on December 18. This is when the final will be played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium (Lusail).

The biggest favorites to win the World Cup

As mentioned, the competition will be unlike anything we’ve seen before and many are already rating the 2022 World Cup as the best in its history. Each team has a good chance of winning, but what is the shortlist of the big favourites?

The top three favorites are Brazil, England and France. Brazil may not have been glorious in this competition since 2002, but it is clear that the national team is regaining its former glory. The likes of Neymar, Allisson, Vini Jr., etc., make the team hard to beat.

Then we have England, perennial favorites in all competitions and a team that manages to fall short of expectations almost every time. England came close to winning Euro 2020 but failed in the final against Italy. Who knows, maybe this time football could really come home.

Finally, we have the current title holder – France. Mbappe, Kante, Pogba, Benzema, Griezmann and many more are part of this star squad and there is hardly a team that can match them.

The other honorable mentions are Belgium, Spain, Germany and Argentina.
